golf-crFor some people, there is nothing better or more relaxing than playing a round (or two or three!) of golf. If the golf course is where you feel the most at home and at peace, then Costa Rica is definitely the right place for you to visit! Costa Rica is a favorite vacation spot for golf enthusiasts from around the world and for good reason; the country is home to a wide range of celebrated golf courses and resorts, many of them world-famous for their excellent greens, major tournaments, extra accommodations, and more. If you thought playing golf in your home country was great, just wait until you experience it in Costa Rica. As you plan your trip, be sure to consult our list of the top golf courses the country has to offer.

The Four Seasons Peninsula Papagayo
The Four Seasons Peninsula Papagayo is housed in the Nasacolo Forest of Costa Rica and is considered one of the top golf courses the world over. It’s extremely well known, thanks in large part to the fact that the golf course was designed by the legendary Arnold Palmer! His fans regularly flock to the course to discover what Arnold’s idea of a dream game of golf is like. Some of the course’s best features include its unique water hazards, which can be found at the 5th, 13th, and 18th holes. The course is also quite famous for its 6th hole, known by fans as “El Bajo” and featuring an elevated tee position for the golfer’s viewing pleasure.

Reserva Conchal
If you’re going to be in Guanacaste, then you have to visit the Paradisus Reserva Conchal. It’s a full-service resort in addition to having an amazing golf course all its own. The course, which is simply named the Reserva Conchal Golf Course, is Audubon-certified and provides a spectacular sightseeing experience while you golf. Not only can you play a great game, but you can take in breathtaking views of the nearby ocean. The ocean also adds the advantage (or disadvantage, depending on how you look at it) of having to keep the breeze in mind as you play. The only potential downside to the course is that you do actually have to be staying at the hotel or renting a Conchal condo in order to play.

Los Suenos Marriott Ocean and Golf Resort
Speaking of seeing beautiful, natural sites while you golf, the Los Suenos Marriott Ocean and Golf Resort of Herradura, Costa Rica is nestled in between a breathtaking tropical rainforest and, of course, the Pacific Ocean. Plus, the resort is more than just a golf course. Before or after you’ve played your eighteen holes, you can enjoy a relaxing massage or other spa-treatment at the on-site Sibo Rainforest Spa and Retreat or take a dive in the swimming pool. Some golfers swear that the super-relaxing atmosphere improves their game; only you can discover how it affects you, but being relaxed and at ease can never be a bad thing!

Hacienda Pinilla
The Hacienda Pinilla Golf Course is located in the Nicoya Peninsula, and like the Los Suenos Marriot golf course, it’s located in a prime spot. Housed within a wildlife refuge that also happens to be a tropical forest, there’s no telling what gorgeous plant and animal life you’re bound to see while you golf. You’re not limited to just golf either; the area actually offers a wide range of outdoor sporting activities, so once you’ve had your fill of golf, you are free to try something else! The course has been in operation since the early 90s, but it’s far from outdated; even the most seasoned players are still likely to find the course challenging and fun. Some of the most notable holes include the 9th hole and the 3rd. The 9th is memorable for its supreme (and surprising!) difficulty, while the 3rd is popular for its lush view of the local vegetation and the ocean.

Los Delfines
Yet another golf course located in the Nicoya Peninsula, Los Delfines is a pretty amazing nine-hole course housed in a tropical rainforest. It’s the perfect place for viewing plant and animal life while you golf and, even better yet, there are many hot tourist destinations in the vicinity, so after you’ve completed your round of golf (and hopefully done well!), you can pack up your equipment and check out everything else—and there’s a lot— that the area has to offer.
